Welcome to my new blog! I will be posting about my art, my home, crafts, and life in general. From time to time, I will have art giveaways!
Lughnasadh is the first of the harvest Sabbats. It isn't yet fall, it is still summer. Even though this is a harvest craft, it still has symbols of summer. Lots of flowers, fruit, wheat, the sun, bright colors.
I had these banners lying around for a while, unsure of what I wanted to do with them. I've been meaning to do something with the upcoming Sabbat, and the idea just popped into my head.
This isn't so much a how to post. But, more or less the idea for one, with pictures of mine. It's up to you to decided what you want to put on your banner.
This is a great craft to do with your children. It would help them to learn the symbols of the Sabbat. It is kind of like scrapbooking.
For this craft you will need:
- Various symbols and pictures of Lughnasadh
- Paints (I used watercolor and acrylic)
- Paintbrushes
- White Glue
- A paper banner. You can buy this or make it.
Here is the type of banner that I purchased:
The one that I use for this craft is white.
I put a letter on each pennant spelling out L-U-G-H-N-A-S-A-D-H, this left me a blank one on each end. This particular banner is around 8 ft long.
The first one I made was Lugh. I painted and paper quilled his beard. If you are interested in paper quilling, you can read about it here: Quilling
For the Goddess, I painted and quilled Madron.
I printed the wheat from some clipart and added it to this one.
For the rest of the pennants, I used clipart, ribbon, raffia and paint. I made two wheat pennants, an apple pennant, a sunflower pennant, an altar pennant, a cornucopia pennant, and finally, a butterfly pennant and a sun pennant.
Here is the whole banner finished and hanging on my wall. This is where it will stay until after Lughnasadh.
I think that this would also be a great craft to hang around an altar. I hope you enjoyed reading this and if you decide to make one, please share it with me. I would love to post pictures of your banner!
